Harpe named 2010 Miss Brave

CHERAW – It was a breathtaking moment as the new 2010 Miss Brave (Georgia Harpe) received her crown during Saturday night’s 2010 Miss Brave Pageant held at Cheraw High School.

Harpe’s eyes were gleaming with joy as the former 2009 Miss Brave, Katherine Godwin, placed the crown on her head.

She also won the Talent Award as well. Harpe’s dream and plans are to attend Anderson University in the fall where she will pursue her studies to achieve a career as a pharmacist. An eighteen-year-old Cheraw High School Senior, Harpe, is the daughter of Mitch and Teresa Harpe.

Also capturing the attention of the audience with her talent was Kimmie Villafranca, 16, daughter of Norberto and Grace Villafranca. She won First Runner-up in the pageant and plans to fulfill her dream of becoming a general practitioner (family doctor).

Winning other awards were sixteen year-old Maggie Thomas, who won the title of Miss Congeniality. Thomas plans to earn a Masters Degree in Psychology to pursue a counseling career. She is the daughter of Michael and Kathleen Thomas.

Winning the Reta Brock Smith Director’s Award was seventeen year-old Taylor Brianna Melton, the daughter of Wayne and Sandy Melton. Her goal is to also pursue a career in the medical field to become a doctor.

The 2010 Pageant Directors were Janet Caulder and Karen Ellerbe, (also NTHS Advisor, Miss Brave Co-Director and CATE Instructor). The Mistress of Ceremony was Murtice Hinson, Co-Hosts were Hainey and Dylan Alford, Announcers were Kayla Waymyers and Aakash Patel; Sound/Stage Crew included Jacob Edwards, Ethan Smith, Nick Jacobs, Charles Thompson, Joel Keefe, William Keefe and Garrett White. Family/Staff Assistance- Debbie McCauley, Penny Quick, Janice Moore, Terrance Ford, Tony Boyer, David Byrd, Billy Amick, Butch Rosser, David Morgan and Elaine Rogers. Entertainment and performances included Katherine Godwin, Cheraw High School Performing Chorus, Sub-Zero, Tracy Hancock Terry, Brittany Malloy, Cody and Laurin Newsome and Cheraw High Jazz Ensemble.

The local sponsors of the event were Cheraw Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, Scuba by John Melton, Harpe Family Automotive, Leviner’s Auto and Wrecker, Palmetto Family Medicine, Wannamaker Drug, Jamison Inn, Harsey’s Pharmacy, Tina Tiny Tots and CMC Building Supply.
