Pee Dee Male Conference in recognition with Sexual Assault Awareness Reducing Our Assault Risk (ROAR) themed “Standing Stronger. Standing Together”, will be held at 513 Barnes St., Florence, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Free lunch, live entertainment, resource booths and door prizes will be on hand. Join Us For These Exciting Workshops: “It’s All in the Music” - A look at music and its effect on youth; “Brother To Brother, Honest Talk about HIV/STDs”; “Sexting, Texting, Twittering - What Parents Should Know”; “New Fads in Alcohol” (Parents Only); “Get Your Swag Game On” - Coming into manhood as defined by today’s generation; “Protecting the Lady in Your Life” - The important role that males play in ending violence against girls/women. This event is co-sponsored by Orr Company, Inc., the City of Florence Parks & Beautification, Boys & Girls Club of the Pee Dee, and Florence Mayor’s Coalition Against Youth Crime.

A benefit sale and singing will be held at True Gospel Emmanuel Holiness Church, 2539 Grants Mill Rd., Wallace. The sale will begin at 2 p.m. and singing will begin at 6 p.m. Fish plates will be sold until they are all gone, hot dogs and baked goods will also be available. Singing will feature local singers and churches. This fundraiser will be held for Scottie and Stephanie Brigman. He was hospitalized for over two months. Due to his prolonged hospital stay he has required rehabilitation. Donations may be mailed to: True Gospel Emmanuel Holiness Church, 5038 Hatcher Hill Rd., Wallace, S.C. 29596. April 11

The annual Lisenby reunion will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church, Chesterfield at 12:45 p.m. The church is located on S.C. HWY 9 West of Chesterfield. Church services will begin at 10 a.m. Bring a covered dish and join us for fun and fellowship.

April 12

Please be aware that there will be NO board meeting on April 12. The recent meeting was in place of the April meeting.

April 16-17

The On Stage Theatre Group in collaboration with the Cheraw High School Ninth Grade Academy will be presenting “Stay as Dead as you are”, a play written by Lee Mueller. The performances will be at the Cheraw High School. ShowTime both nights is 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased in advance at Cheraw High School, Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, Cheraw Community Center, Brown’s Gift Shop, L & W Hair Design and The Cheraw Chronicle. If available, tickets will also be sold at the door.

April 17

Class of 1980 will hold a meeting at Jap Roddy’s home, 106 Woodland Circle, Cheraw at 5 p.m. Plans will be made for the upcoming class reunion scheduled for the weekend of June 25-26, 2010. Miss Society Hill Poker Run will be held along with registration at Buddy’s, Hwy 52 North, Society Hill. Cost is $20 per hand, an extra hand is $10 and an extra card is $5. This event will benefit The Children’s Miracle Network. First bike out at 11 a.m., last bike out at 1 p.m. and last bike in at 5 p.m. Best hand receives 20% of registration; second best hand received 15% and worst hand receives 10%. The John Thomas and Sara Jane White Lee Family Reunion will be at 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Westfield Creek Baptist Church. There will be a table provided to share your family memorabilia/photos. Bring a well-filled basket along with tea or sodas. Dinnerware will be provided.

Yard Sale of the Carolinas will be held on Main Street in Chesterfield, just off S.C. Hwy 9. There will be handmade local crafts, music and entertainment all day long, local artisans, activities, household goods, books, food, antiques, games, pony rides, a huge children’s play area, prizes and lots of fun.

The Greater Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet will be held at Green River Country Club. Social Hour is 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Senator Vincent Sheheen. Cheraw Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held in Cheraw Saturday through Wednesday. Open speaker meetings are held Sundays at 8 p.m. On Mondays a Big Book study group meets at 8 p.m. The sharing group meets on Tuesdays at noon; Wednesdays at 8 p.m. is a closed discussion group and Saturdays at noon there is 12 and 12 study groups. The Cheraw Recreation and Leisure Services Department will be offering an exercise class called “The Three M’s: Mix, Match & Move”. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. Bring a towel, no restrictions on age, weight, etc. Everybody welcome. Yoga Classes will be offered on Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Classes will begin February 15 and run for six weeks (until March 25th). The Greater Pee Dee Animal Rescue invites you to join us in our monthly meetings that are held the first and third Tuesdays at the Harvest Community Daycare and Church located on Hwy 9, beginning at 7 p.m. Our meetings are open to the public and everyone interested in animal welfare in the Pee Dee area is welcome to come to our meetings. The South Carolina Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy, is working on chartering a new UDC chapter in the Cheraw/Bennettsville area. We have three women who are interested in starting this chapter. We need seven prospects to apply for a charter.

If you know of any women (your wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, cousins, aunts, etc.) who might be interested in being a charter member of this new chapter, please write to: firstinsecesssion@hotmail.com for more information.

The application fee is $40 and it is not paid until the application is actually submitted.

The Cheraw Ministerial Alliance announces a series of Wed. lunches and devotional services for the observance of he Christian season of Lent. Each Wed. Feb. 17 through March 24, the First Baptist Church of Cheraw will be the site of a noon Lenten lunch and devotional service. Leading the services will be Cheraw area pastors. Each Wed. a different pastor will speak. Only one pastor will speak per night in the following order: Rev. Kyle Henderson of First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Jerry Corbett of Pee Dee Union Baptist Church, Rev. Paul Wood of First United Methodist Church, Rev. Cheryl Toothe of Mt. Olivet and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Churches, Rev. Westside Baptist Church has a church sponsored soup kitchen every Wednesday night at the church 5-7 p.m. A church service follows at 7:15 p.m.
