“We weren’t at full strength,” said Braves head coach Brad Porter. “We had a couple guys out and we still had Kenyatta Gary out at the North-South All-Star game.
The following night, the Braves traveled to Buford to take on Buford and North Central. Cheraw faced North Central first, coming away with a 51-27 victory. Buford defeated the Braves 52-24.
“Buford is a scrappy team and I take nothing away from them,” Porter said. “We gave up several weight classes. You can’t do that with them. You have to be able to wrestle in every weight class.”
On Dec. 12 and 13, the Braves traveled to the North Myrtle Beach Invitational. Josh Johnson finished in second place in the 130-lb weight class. Rashad Hancock finished in third at 103-lb.
“Those two performances were big for us,” Porter said.
Porter hopes to have his full team out this week. He says once his whole team is out, he should be able to fill the vacant weight classes.
“By the Ram Rumble, we should be back at full strength,” Porter said. “Once everyone is in wrestling shape, we should be fine. February is when it counts and we hope to have it together by then.”
The Braves will travel to take on Aynor and Myrtle Beach tonight at 6 p.m.
