Westfield Creek Baptist Church invites you to Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 p.m.

The VBS theme is “Hero Headquarters -Where Kids Join Forces With God.” There will be classes for all ages. The church is located in the Westfield Creek/Zoar community. The public is invited to attend.

June 17

Cheraw Alive! Summer Music Series presents Youth Variety Show Open Season #2 at Centennial Park. A Variety Show will be at 7 p.m. a movie to follow: Your time to shine.

Be a part of our variety show all singers, dancers, jugglers, actors, gymnasts, comedians, martial artists and more. Groups and individuals ages 5-18. Applications available Cheraw Community Center. The friends of Marian Wright Edelman Public Library will hold a used book sale 8 a.m.-noon in the old Murchison School located next door to the new Marian Wright Edelman Public Library on Fayetteville Ave. in Bennettsville. Over 3,000 books are available. Proceeds support the activities of the library and provide supplies and equipment. For more information call 843-862-7837.

“Kids in the Kitchen-”Cooling Out”

Young chefs are instructed in beginner culinary techniques and prepare summer dishes. 10 a.m.-noon. Grades 3rd and up limit is 10 and cost is $30. Metal Mania Sculpture Works-Join Bob Doster and create a sculpture from a sheet of metal.

June 28-July 1 Adults – students ages 9 & up

8-10 a.m. Cost is $50. Clay Creations with artist Bob Doster

Complete one clay project each day. Some projects glazed and fired. Pick up pieces the next week. Cost is $25

Mrs. Felicia’s History Day Camp & Finishing School for Young Ladies will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Registration is $45 for ages 9-13 at Southern African American Heritage Center, 125 Kershaw Street, Cheraw. For additional information 843-921-9989

In this day camp, girls will focus on different themes each day, etiquette’s, handcrafts, expressions, culminating on the final day with a tea party. Camp includes the opportunity to learn about African American history of Chesterfield County, African American Women who shaped history and more. Treat a girl to this fun adventure yet educational experience.

A blood drive will be held in memory of Dr. Winston Godwin at Hopewell Baptist Church 2-7 p.m. They will be giving out Red Cross T-Shirts to those who participate at the blood drive.

“More Cheraw Alive”...Independence Trikes, Bikes, & Wagon parade will be held at 10:30 am Downtown Cheraw - Free Independence Celebration & Fireworks in Downtown Cheraw.

Theatre Camp will be held featuring a Young “stars” hone acting skills and end camp with a performance. Grades1st-5th will be 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 6th and up 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Dillon County Historical Society and the Dillon County Chamber of Commerce as part of the celebration of Dillon County’s centennial will sponsor an Antique-Crafts-Collectibles Show at the Community Center in Lake View on Aug. 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Aug. 8, 2-5 p.m. Booths are available for interested dealers, crafters and collectors. Cheraw Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held in Cheraw Saturday through Wednesday. Open speaker meetings are held Sundays at 8 p.m. On Mondays a Big Book study group meets at 8 p.m. The sharing group meets on Tuesdays at noon; Wednesdays at 8 p.m. is a closed discussion group and Saturdays at noon there is 12 and 12 study groups. The Greater Pee Dee Animal Rescue invites you to join us in our monthly meetings that are held the first and third Tuesdays at the Harvest Community Daycare and Church located on Hwy 9, beginning at 7 p.m. Our meetings are open to the public and everyone interested in animal welfare in the Pee Dee area is welcome to come to our meetings. Attention: “Purple Heart Veterans of any War”

The Local Purple Heart Veterans are interested in forming a Purple Heart chapter for Chesterfield and Marlboro Counties. Please contact Ed Norris at 843-537-9829.

The South Carolina Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy, is working on chartering a new UDC chapter in the Cheraw/Bennettsville area. We have three women who are interested in starting this chapter. We need seven prospects to apply for a charter.

If you know of any women (your wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, cousins, aunts, etc.) who might be interested in being a charter member of this new chapter, please write to: firstinsecesssion@hotmail.com for more information.

The application fee is $40 and it is not paid until the application is actually submitted.

Westside Baptist Church has a church sponsored soup kitchen every Wednesday night at the church 5-7 p.m. A church service follows at 7:15 p.m.

The Greater Pee Dee Animal Rescue meets on the third Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. at Mary’s Restaurant, on Market St in Cheraw. We have a hotdog sale at the IGA in Cheraw on the first Saturday each of month. The money raised goes to our spay and neuter program. Faith Believers Church located at 7315 Hwy 52 South (between Cheraw and Society Hill) has Sunday school at 9 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Sundays. Sunday school and devotion is held the second and fourth Sundays at 10 a.m. Prayer and Bible class is held the first, second and fourth Wed. at 6:30 p.m. Nursing Home Ministry is held the third Wed.
