CHERAW – Cheraw resident, Angie Smith, is a woman who wears many hats. As manager of Wendy’s Restaurant in Cheraw, she is also the new owner of her new business establishment and home, Simply Southern Bed & Breakfast, located at 504 Kershaw St.
Smith will continue to be dedicated to her current management position at Wendy’s. However, she is anxious to utilize her restaurant management and people skills to follow the dream of owning her own business.
“This is something I wanted to do for a long time. I finally decided to just go ahead and make it happen, with the help of family members and friends. I thought that with my restaurant experience, I would combine my talents into the bed and breakfast business,” said Smith. “My son, Tyler, and my nephew, Adam, have been working very hard getting the place ready for opening day,” she continued.
Smith said that she began researching the idea of opening a bed and breakfast about two months ago after she learned the “Brasington House” was for sale. Built in 1920 and renovated in 2004 by its former owner, Joyce McDonald, the house airs a historical atmosphere with a touch of southern hospitality.
“Our first guests, Sonny and Jo Smith of Simpsonville, arrived last week. I have also booked two rooms for the end of the month. Our rates are affordable and one thing I’m looking forward to is making new friends. We will provide the best service possible for our customers,” said Smith.
“We are really enjoying the house and the friendly hospitality here. It was worth the 150-mile drive. The rooms and the atmosphere are great. It is so peaceful here,” said Jo Smith.
With the lavish landscaping in the front of the house leading to the beveled glass front door, the house showcases several sitting rooms and fireplaces that provide a special feeling of the home’s historic past. Guests can also enjoy a home-cooked hot breakfast along with the quiet country setting, which is surrounded by many conveniences.
“We have three elegant rooms our guests can rent. There is also a master guest suite, which has its own private bathroom,” said Smith.
She also praised the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, and President, Patsy Hendley, for the support and encouragement that she and the town have provided. Smith added that the businesses’ new website: (http://www.simplysouthernbedandbreakfast.com/) is now up and running via the Internet.
An official ribbon cutting will be held on Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. in conjunction with a business after hour’s event for Chamber members.
