The rainy weather didn’t stop the crowd of people from enjoying the wonderful foods of local vendors at Chesterfield’s Taste of the Carolinas on Sept. 29. The event took place at the home of Gilbert King, located off Oakland Church Road in Chesterfield.
Along with notes of classic rock, you could hear compliments of the delectable dishes as guests mingled, and meandered, to each of the vendor tents. The Rhythm Masters, all the way from Hickory, N.C., provided guests with a variety of ’70s and ’80s classic rock, Motown and even some blues.
Sponsored by the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, the event was open to anyone older than the age of 21. Dress for the affair was semi-formal.
Favorite dishes for the event included shrimp and grits from C & K Construction and Logging; the gumbo served at Phil Powell’s tent; and let’s not forget, the barbecue chicken wrapped in bacon from a new Chesterfield restaurant, The Main Street Cafe; just to name a few.
Local vendors included: Founders Federal Credit Union, Chesterfield Feed & Seed and The Pink Door, Will Rogers, Solicitor, Progress Energy, J.K. Farms, C.K. Construction & Logging, LLC, Palmetto Pulp Wood, Douglas Machine Shop, Pig & Vittles, Phil Powell, State House Seat #53, Richie Yow, State House Seat #53, Hubert Griggs, Agape Hospice, Main Street Cafe, Furr Grading & Paving, Inc., Warden & Smith, Inc., Bi-Lo of Cheraw, Piggly Wiggly, The Bank Restaurant & Bar, Shaw’s Body Shop, Williams Clearing and Grading, Representative Ted Vick, Cakes By Carol, Rivers Plumbing & Electric, Cassidy Builders, Chesterfield County Rural Water, Campbell Construction, Bojangles of Chesterfield, Cockrell Law Firm, First Bank, and Brothers Signs, Truck Lettering and Window Tinting.
Not all of the vendor/business tents were food-related, but all of them provided a tasty treat.
Organizers are already looking toward 2013’s feast and suggest, whether you want to be a guest who samples the many dishes, or a vendor that strives to make your dish stand out, make plans now to be a part of next year’s Taste of the Carolinas.
