CHESTERFIELD — Thomas Devoid Melton, 41, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Chesterfield General Hospital, Cheraw, S.C.

Funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Rock Springs Missionary Baptist Church, Ruby, S.C.

Interment followed in the Rock Springs Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.

Melton was born July 13, 1971, in Chesterfield County. He was the son of the late Devoid Melton and Catherine Covington Melton. He was a member of Rock Springs Missionary Baptist Church. He served on the usher board and sang with the Men’s Choir. Melton’s hobbies were riding his four-wheeler and fishing with family and friends. He will always be remembered as a kind and humble person. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend; He loved his mother dearly and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his mother, Catherine Covington Melton, Chesterfield; three sisters, Josie Bivens (John), Chesterfield, Mary A. Melton, Cheraw, and Angela M. Horton, Ruby; a grandmother, Mary Ruth Philbeck, Pageland, S.C.; four aunts, four uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Flemming Funeral Home was in charge.
