Tyrone Power Merriman, 65, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at home after an extended illness.
The funeral service was held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Charity Community Church of Christ in Cheraw. Interment was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Cheraw.
Merriman, the son of the late Lloyd and Ada Mae Nivens Merriman was born on Dec. 31, 1946. He joined Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Cheraw, and completed his education at Gary High School, Chesterfield. Merriman was retired from Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College, Cheraw, as a technician. He was a proud member of Saint David’s Masonic Lodge Number 467. Merriman was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Jerome.
He is survived by wife, Gladys Merriman; a son, James (Takeisha) Leak, Cheraw; daughter, Twina Rivers, Cheraw; a brother, Timothy (Sharon) Merriman, High Point, N.C.; eight sisters, Mary Catherine McCoy, Chesterfield, Alice Chapman, Sondra Sowell, Elaine (Lee) Sowell, Jacquelyn Myers, Ada (Charles) Ashe, all of Cheraw, Mary Jo (Charles) Sturdivant, Morven, N.C., and Genine (Nathan) Donovan, Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a god-daughter and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Flemming Funeral Home was in charge.
