Cheraw’s First Annual Christmas Fest, held at Centennial Park and downtown Cheraw last Saturday, has received “nothing but positive comments,” said Cheraw Town Administrator Mike Smith.
Approximately 144 youngsters, and others who have a soft spot for The Grinch, turned out that morning to watch a showing of the classic movie, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” on the big screen at the Theatre on the Green.
The afternoon was filled with carousels and caroling, funnel cakes, giant slides, and old fashioned, horse drawn carriage rides. Topping off the events at dusk was a spectacular display of fireworks.
Smith said there were approximately 450 bracelets sold to children for the rides, meaning there was a very respectable crowd for this first time event. “But it will definitely not be the last,” said Smith. “It was very successful, we’re happy to say, and are already planning for next year.”
