The Bennettsville community is mourning the loss of an 8 year old child, Easton Brueger. Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown has said his death “appears to be accidental.”
“We believe the child was accidentally shot at his residence at 806 Fayetteville Avenue in Bennettsville,” said Lt. Larry Turner, investigator for the Bennettsville Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
“The body has been sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy,” said Turner. “And because he was a child, the investigation has been turned over to South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).”
Turner would not say what type of gun was involved, as the investigation is ongoing.
