Melvin Eugene Polson Jr., 62, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Cheraw.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mr. Polson was born Dec.12, 1949, in Cheraw, a son of Doris Williams Polson Hudson, and the late Melvin Eugene Polson. He was a 1968 graduate of Cheraw High School, and also received a Welding and Mechanic degree from Chesterfield Marlboro Tec. Eugene was a retired mechanic with INA USA. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Polson was a member of the American Legion and the WOW Lodge 516. Eugene was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, and spending time at the beach. He also enjoyed classic cars, race car driving, building racing engines, and Nascar racing. Eugene enjoyed his family and friends, and they were all very special to him.
In addition to his father, Eugene was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Lee Polson.
Survivors include a wife, Agnes Odom Polson of the home; a son, Melvin Eugene “Gene” Polson, III of Cheraw; a daughter, Shannon Marie Polson of Chesterfield; mother and stepfather, Doris Williams Hudson and David Bryant Hudson of Cheraw; and a sister, Lexie Polson (Jerry) Lewis of Chesterfield.
