The wife of an American diplomat who murdered a 19-year-old in Britain has reached a settlement with relatives of victim Harry Dunn. Still on trial.
A spokesperson for the next of kin confirmed the deal, but did not say anything about the content of the agreement. The case caused an uproar because Ann Sacoolas left for the United States shortly after the incident in August 2019 and was examined by her husband’s diplomatic immunity.
The United States ignored an extradition request from the British judiciary. Sacoolas’ lawyer said in 2020 she would not voluntarily go back to prison because of a “horrific but unintentional incident”.
Earlier this year, then-British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the way was clear for British authorities to see if a hypothetical or other trial could be held against Sacoolas “to provide some accountability and some solace and justice to the Dunn family”. “.
