The original “Chloe” meme sold for $74,000 (about $63,139). The family of Chloe Clem (10 years old), the girl shown in the photo, I decided earlier this week to auction off the meme for $15,000, but in the end the picture yielded a lot. The meme buyer is a music company from Dubai, “3F Music”.
Chloe’s image is sold as a non-fungible token or non-fungible token (NFT). The NFT provides a digital certificate that allows someone to take ownership of the original copies of digital photos, such as viral memes or tweets, and thus sell them just like physical photos. In most cases, the copyright is held by the creator of the image, but the buyer owns the original.
A trip to Disneyland
Chloe’s mother, Katie, said the whole family was very pleased with the sale. It seems that “although the photo has sold for a little less than other memes in the past, we are very grateful.” “Money is great, but the great thing is that we can experience it with the whole family,” Katie concludes.
Chloe’s photo comes from a YouTube video where Katie surprises her daughters with a trip to Disneyland. However, in the video, which was filmed in 2013, 2-year-old Chloe appears unmoved, much to the amusement of many netizens. The family already has some plans with a sum of money: “We’re definitely going to have another trip to Disneyland sometime next year,” it seems.
