Footballer Janu Levels from Herton has been selected to the Dutch national team for the first time. The Orange Lions will play two World Cup qualifiers next week against Cyprus and Belarus.
Born in Roarmont and raised in Herton has been playing for PSV since the 2018-2019 season. Defender already went on to play on the CTO team for the fifth time at the age of 14, which is a talent team where players can optimally combine school and sports.
Three
Janu Levels is one of three players from Limburg selected by national coach Mark Parsons. Like Martinez from FC Barcelona and Dominic Johnson from VfL Wolfsburg have also been invited. Lynn Wilms, who plays for Wolfsburg, was not selected. She is still recovering from a back injury.
Opportunity
“This is an opportunity to see new players like Janu Levels,” national coach Parsons said through the Football Association’s website. “We see things going well at the club and it’s interesting to take a closer look at how the level is rising.”
World Cup qualification
The Orange Lions will first play against Cyprus on Friday, October 22, and Belarus on Tuesday, October 26 at the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk. It was a 1 – 1 draw at home against the Czech Republic in September and a 2 – 0 win in the match against Iceland. In Group C, the Netherlands decides with the above four countries to qualify directly for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
