Bart Swings won a skating marathon for the Dutch KNSB competition in Breda on Saturday. Swings triumphed in the final race after 125 laps. In a group of twenty skaters, he was too fast for Harm Visser (second) and Bart Hoolwerf (third).

The trip back to Europe after the two World Cup finals in North America was well received by Belgium’s top skater. “Always great if you plan to win a marathon and you succeed,” the winning skater told skaken.nl afterwards.

He left the skaters in the Dutch marathon with their mouths open. “Are you looking for a Belgian?” said Crispijn Ariëns of Hoolwerf Heiwerken-AB Vakwerk. “Bart isn’t just any Belgian, does he. He rode so well in America and Canada for a reason. We knew he was perfectly fine. In group starts he drove across the pond with no one left to help, yet he got those tasks done brilliantly.”

Team leader Roy Boeuf was more certain: “Tonight was a couple of categories better than the rest. This guy is in really good shape.”
