US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Friday in Geneva, Switzerland. This was stated by an employee of the US State Department. The goal is to find a “diplomatic way out” of the Ukrainian crisis.
An anonymous State Department employee reports that “the Secretary of State is 150% involved” in the search for a diplomatic solution.
Blinken and Lavrov actually had a phone conversation with each other on Tuesday to discuss the conflict over Ukraine. “As part of that conversation, they decided it would be useful to meet,” a US State Department source said.
She added that the meeting between the two ministers will provide an opportunity to explore where Washington and Moscow can find common ground. Diplomacy is not dead.
Blinkin will already meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in Kiev on Wednesday. On Thursday, he will consult Germany, France and the United Kingdom in Berlin.
