Putin describes the invasion of Ukraine as a “special military operation”. The Russian forces are heroically performing their military duty “to provide assistance to the Donbass People’s Republics”.
The Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, recognized by Russia, are located in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine. One of the goals of the Russian military operation is to bring the larger areas of Luhansk and Donetsk completely under the control of pro-Russian separatists.
Putin said earlier that he wants to do the demilitarization of Ukraine. He also wants to overthrow the leadership, which he describes as nationalist and has repeatedly criticized for his anti-Russian policies.
Putin said in a video message that the Russian armed forces are deployed to protect Russia’s national interests. He also encouraged his forces.
