Britain’s Prince Edward is in New Zealand. King Charles’ younger brother is in the country to celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hilary Award. The organization thrives through study programs for youth between the ages of 14 and 24.
Edward was welcomed to Auckland with traditional ceremony. Later, the Prince met some of the participants and volunteers at events organized by The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards. This program is known by various names around the world. In New Zealand it is known as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award, in reference to New Zealand explorer Sir Edmund Hillary.
The late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, established The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards Foundation in 1956. Prince Edward is the patron and chairman of the organization today. He also currently holds the title of Duke of Edinburgh.
Edwards will still be based in the Asia-Pacific region for the foreseeable future. In any case, he will travel to Sydney, Australia and Jakarta, Indonesia, according to The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards website.
