US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin left the hospital on Monday. He had been in a military hospital since New Year's Day due to complications following treatment for prostate cancer. He did not immediately report this to President Joe Biden.
Seventy-year-old Austin would work from home on the advice of his doctors, only to return to the Pentagon full-time later. He also worked from the hospital.
His ministry says the prostate cancer has been treated at an early stage and Austin plans no further treatment. However, the minister still has checks.
The hospitalization caused a stir because Austin did not immediately share the information with Biden, the White House and members of Congress.
Some critics are therefore of the opinion that he should step down. Biden said he made a mistake by not immediately reporting Austin's hospitalization, but he still has faith in the minister.
