The managers of the Ferrero plant in Arlon have not yet submitted a formal plan to resume activities to the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV). FASFC confirmed this to the news agency Belgium†
The factory was closed on April 8 after multiple cases of salmonella were reported worldwide after eating the group’s chocolate products. However, there are meetings at least once a week between plant officials and experts from the FASFC to develop a plan to resume activities, said FASFC spokeswoman Allen van den Broek.
“Once Ferrero has submitted an application for admission, the FASFC has a statutory period of thirty days to declare itself,” the spokeswoman said. “It is not our intention to let things drag on unnecessarily, but we will make sure that the terms are complied with.”
For its part, Ferrero said, on Tuesday, that the company is working on a “concrete and expedited plan to solve the problem surrounding salmonella contamination in Arlon.”
The Ferrero factory in Arlon opened in 1989 and employs 725 people. The workforce can grow to 1,100 in peak periods.
