A visitor to the Louvre attacks the Mona Lisa with cakes and roses | a stranger

According to a visitor, who is telling his story on Twitter, the unknown first tried to damage the display case. When that didn’t work, he threw the cake onto the canvas and spread it on the glass plate. Then he sprayed roses before security threw him to the ground.

The Paris Museum has yet to comment on the attack.

A video clip shows the perpetrator addressing visitors in French, as he is taken away by security. Among other things, he exclaims: “Some people are trying to destroy the Earth, think Earth!”

It is not yet clear what the man’s motive was and how he smuggled the cake to the museum. Visitors say the man disguised himself as an old lady and rode into the museum in a wheelchair before committing the attack.

The Spanish newspaper said that this is not the first attack on da Vinci’s work. In August 2009, a tourist threw a cup of tea at the Mona Lisa, smashing the display case.

In 1974, when the work was on display at the Tokyo National Museum, a woman used red spray, but it did not damage the painting. In 1956, there were two more attacks: in the first, a man threw acid on the canvas, which damaged the bottom. Later that year, a Bolivian painter threw a stone at the work, causing minor damage.

In 1911, Vincenzo Perugia actually stole the painting, and then hid the painting in his apartment. The Mona Lisa was not recovered until two years later when Perugia attempted to sell the work to the world-famous Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence, Italy.
