Di Maria leaves the best player in the club’s history. The winger played 294 games, scoring 91 goals and making 111 assists. This resulted in 5 titles, 5 French Cups and 5 League Cups, but the Champions League with PSG will always be a dream.
PSG brought him to Manchester United in 2015, before the weather was fine at Benfica and Real Madrid. Nothing but the big clubs for the pointed wing.
“The fans will never forget his impeccable spirit,” club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said in a statement. “His commitment to defending our colors was absolute.”
Di Maria has been a fixture on the winger for years, propelled by the arrival of his illustrious compatriot Lionel Messi to the bench.
The club decided not to extend the option for an additional season in Di Maria’s contract, which expires in June.
Coach Mauro Pochettino, another Argentine, said goodbye: “He’s an exceptional player with a great career. He’s achieved tremendous things here over the past seven years. He’s among the best players to ever wear this shirt.”
The Parc des Princes will not soon forget the left leg: its efficacy in the stationary stages and its iconic celebration, a heart made with his own hands. We’ll see that one last time in his farewell tonight.
