Hundreds of new stations in the coming years
Fastned Express is making good progress. Fastned aims to the future and would like to build hundreds of new charging stations in the coming years. In 2030, the Fastned network should consist of 1,000 fast charging stations.
The benefits of fasting are enormous From the increase in the number of electric cars on the road. Not only in Holland, but also elsewhere in Europe. In the first quarter of this year, Fastned saw its sales increase by 186%, which was a great draw for the company to announce the expansion of its express shipping network. By the end of this year, Fastned wants to have at least 253 charging stations, but it doesn’t stop there. The company is now looking even further and says it wants to have 1,000 fast charging stations by 2030.
Fastned’s intended expansion is going fast. very Difficult. Before the end of 2024, the Fastned charging network should consist of 400 stations. The company says it needs additional funding of 50-75 million euros for this. After 2024, the Fastned network should expand at a rate of 100 fast charging stations per year, with the interim end goal of having a total of 1,000 charging stations by 2030.
Fastned already stated earlier this year that it not only wanted to increase the number of charging stations, but also wanted to improve the capacity of its stations. The Fastned fast charging station had an average of four chargers in 2021. In 2025 the average number of chargers per station should be six and in 2030 it should be eight. Fastned says it also wants to gradually explore new markets. Fastned logically prioritizes countries where many new electric vehicles are sold. Later this year, Fastned will open its first Fastned store at the charging station in Brecht between Antwerp and Rotterdam. Here the company will sell sandwiches and coffee, which is a first step towards the so-called full service charging station.
Can Fastned open stores at its charging stations? Believes. In 2019, Wassten was upholding the appeal against the Dutch state by the State Council. Related to the decision of the Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment, according to which Fastned was not granted a permit to place a shop and restrooms in its stations.
The intended expansion will affect the average annual turnover that Fastned expects to be able to generate from its terminals. The charging station should generate €400,000 annually in 2025. In 2030, the average turnover of the station should be at least €1 million.
