Lotto Soudal breaks Arnaud de Lee’s contract: ‘It’s really impressive what he’s shown’ | Cycling

Arnaud De Lie has only made the move to the pros this year, but he can already provide a nice relief. The 20-year-old sprinter has already won Trofeo Palma, GP Jean-Pierre Monseré, Volta Limburg Classic, GP Marcel Kent, Heistse Pijl and Ronde van Limburg.

“What Arnaud has shown this year as a first-year professional is impressive,” said John Lelang, CEO of Lotto Soudal, on the contract extension. “We knew he was one of the top talents, but we didn’t expect that he would win instantly 6 times in his first six months as a professional.”

“We believe that in the future he can grow into a rider who can compete for victory in the biggest races. Riders like Arnaud de Li, whom we train ourselves and with whom we can score ourselves, are the future of our team. Why are we really happy that he has stayed with us for longer.”

Arnaud de Lee imposed the confidence of the team from the start of the season and paid it immediately. “I feel very good in this team,” De Lee said. “I feel comfortable with all the riders, staff and sport directors.”

“The team really pushed me out of my first race. If I had confidence in the sprint I had all the support. That mutual trust is the most important reason for me to extend.”

De Lie wants to continue development at Lotto-Soudal. “Here I have a chance to continue growing at a good rhythm. Next year I hope to be able to compete in bigger classics. For example, I would like to win Nokere Koerse. But first I focus on the second half of the 2022 season. There are still a lot of great races to be played. I want to sign up for it.”
