Due to a major forest fire in southwest France, authorities closed part of a major highway nearby as a precaution. It’s about the A63 that runs from Bordeaux to the Spanish border in Hendaye.
The A63 connects France and Spain via Bordeaux and Bayonne, but those wishing to use the motorway will have to look for an alternative. Southwest of Bordeaux, about 40 kilometers of the road is closed to traffic in both directions due to intense bushfires. The other road to Spain is on the eastern side of the Pyrenees.
Thousands of fighters are trying to control intense forest fires with the help of firefighting planes. Nearly twenty houses have been burned as a result of forests and wildfires in the Gironde County. 6000 people have already been evacuated. Also in a short time, 6000 hectares of pine trees caught fire.
The wind is so hard
Firefighters speak of a “very unfavorable” situation in the affected area near Bordeaux, which was already devastated by a massive fire in Landeras last month. Marc Vermeulen, a spokesman for the regional fire brigade, told French media that the current flames were “faster and more intense” than previous ones. It is not only drought, but also wind that makes it difficult to combat.
The police suspect the possible involvement of evil play. Some fires in France were deliberately set. A suspect in the current fire was released due to insufficient evidence.
Elsewhere in France as well, residents and vacationers have to leave areas where wildfires are burning. In the place between Angers and Tours, there were about seventy people. About 3,000 villagers in southern Aveyron province had to flee in the middle of the night.
