N-VA does not want children of ISIS mothers with grandparents | the interior

The N-VA wants children who have been returned from Syria to not be automatically cared for by grandparents. This is what Flemish MP Nadia Smenet said in the plenary session. According to Welfare Minister Hilda Krewitz (CD&V), that decision is up to the juvenile judge.

Six women and 16 children were repatriated from Syria this week. These minors, given their environment, were at risk of being radicalized. According to the federal government, it is safer to receive them here.

The six women are immediately sent to prison because of their links to ISIS. In most cases kids go to grandparents, but Sminate doesn’t always think that’s a good idea. “In some of those family contexts, parents have become radicalised,” she said. “I think it’s foolish to take these kids there.” MP wants Flanders, responsible for reception, to search for alternatives.

“It’s the juvenile judge who decides where to place the children and the guidance they need,” Krevits said. “I understand you’re wondering if it would be wise to put her with the grandparents, but I wouldn’t take the judge’s place.”
