Last victory in 2008 and 2010
You have to rely on your friends: Anderlecht beat Ghent in 2008
Much has been said and written about the 2008 Cup Final last week, and this was not only Anderlecht’s last cup victory, but also the previous cup final between Anderlecht and Gent.
Watch how AA Gent dominated for so long, Khalilou Fadega almost scored a world goal, but in the end it was two players with pasts in Ghent that gave Anderlecht a 3-2 win. Even Mubarak Boussoufa scored his head.
Always Award in Season 2 of Michel Préaudum: Ghent defeats Circle 3-0 in 2010
Shortly after losing the cup final to Anderlecht, AA Gent appointed Michel Preudium as their new coach. What we didn’t know at the time, but we do now: With Preud’homme, you often have to wait until his second season for an award.
Preud’homme won the title in his second season with Standard and the trophy in his second season with Ghent. Thanks to goals from Koulibaly, Lee and Grundin, Ghent finishes off a solid season with an award. Gentle fans should have waited for this for 26 years.

Anderlecht loses to its great rival in extra time in 2015
What could be more painful than losing a cup final against your great opponent? Lose the cup final with a goal in the 92nd minute against your big opponent.
Many Anderlecht fans prefer not to be reminded of the Club Cup final. Anderlecht lost 2-1 to Club Brugge in 2015.
Purple and white (that pink and white day back) went from heaven to hell in minutes. Mitrovic tied 1-1 in the 89th minute, however, Anderlecht lost before extra time. The winner of the match since then now plays for Anderlecht himself: Lior Rafailov.
After 63 years, a second-tier team won the cup again: the KVM team beat Ghent in 2019
AA Gent faced yet another humiliation in his last cup final. They were a big favorite against 1B club KV Mechelen in 2019. Since 1956 a second division team has won the cup again, and AA Gent has also advanced 1-0.
It still goes wrong for Gentenaars. Dutch goalkeeper starring in a paid job: Michael Verbis.
Who might remember this person over the age of 30?
After 20 years of waiting again, the trophy for Gent succeeded
If the names of Aad Koudijzer, Tony Rombouts or Michel De Wolf are familiar to you, you will enjoy watching photos of the second cup win in AA Gent history.
This was the time when strong leg tackles resulted in only a yellow card and Rick de Seidler provided the suspension. He defeated the Gent Standard 2-0 in 1984 and won the cup again after 20 years of waiting.
Gotthals’ farewell to 1989 against Standard
In the eighties Anderlecht won two cups in a row. Beating the same opponent twice: Standard. Twice the same “magician” sat on the Purple & White coach’s bench: Raymond Gothals.
The cup final he won in 1989 was his farewell to Anderlecht. It was hoisted on the players’ shoulders after the match. (Gothals then briefly returned to Purple & White for one European match.)
From the time of black and white television
This will be the sixth cup final in AA Gent history on Monday. You have already seen the wins in 1984 and 2010 and the losing finals in 2008 and 2019 in this article.
For completeness, intern Janice wandered for several days in the VRT archive in search of images of the fifth final that Ghent played. Finally he returned with symptoms of dehydration with the 1964 final photos. Black and white photos without sound.
Gent beat KFC Dienst 4-2 after overtime. Three goals scored by Eric Lambert for Gent.
Anderlecht has played 14 cup finals (9 of them won). We couldn’t do all that for our apprentice.
