Thousands of protesters stage sit-in at the White House, asking Biden to defend abortion

Thousands of protesters marched to the White House in Washington on Saturday. There, protesters staged a sit-in to demand that US President Joe Biden strengthen his defense of the constitutional right to abortion. So they risked getting arrested, but that didn’t happen.

Since the US Supreme Court has ended the constitutional right to abortion, states can decide individually whether or not to ban abortion: several states have already done so.

Protesters carried protest banners with slogans such as “Keep the rosary away from the ovaries,” “Ruth (Bader Ginsburg, editor) sent us,” and “It’s too bad until introverts show up,” according to The Washington Post. They were dressed in green and with green bands tied at the doors of the White House: the color reminded us of Argentina’s struggle for the right to abortion.

The protest was organized by the Women’s March, the Washington Post wrote. This is the movement behind the national rallies on the day Donald Trump became president of the United States in 2017. The Women’s March is calling for a summer full of rage.

President Biden, who was not in the White House, but at his beach house in Delaware, according to protesters, did not react forcefully enough to the Supreme Court’s decision. However, he says so Its executive power is limited† He says the best way to restore justice is to pass a federal law. To achieve this, federal voters must give Democrats a solid majority in the November elections.
