TotalEnergies and Electrabel will install Flemish charging stations | Mobility

At the end of 2021, there were already 5,800 public charging points (AC or AC) and 203 fast charging points (DC or DC) in Flanders. To achieve an electric car boom among the general public, Flanders must have 35,000 public and semi-public charging points by 2025.

Flemish Mobility Minister Lydia Peters (Open Vld) has written a tender procedure for AC charging stations on public land, with a charging capacity of 22 kW.

Flanders was divided into five regions – Limburg; Leuven and the Flemish Ocean; Antwerp, Michelin and Kempin; Ghent, Flemish Ardennes, Wassland, and Aalst; Ostend, Westhoek, Bruges, Midwest, Kortrijk – to exempt municipal authorities.

Inge Electrabel brought Limburg, Ghent and Antwerp, and the other regions went to TotalEnergies, he wrote “Het Belang”. France-owned energy companies take care of supply, installation, maintenance and operation.

The newspaper wrote that Minister Peters’ government could not confirm this information. The contracting authority is bound by a fifteen-day waiting period between notification and conclusion of the contract.

“Actual agreements can only be concluded after the waiting period is over,” Peters said. “It is expected that by 2025, approximately 10,000 freight equivalents will be added to the public domain in Flanders through these concessions.”

The cities of Genk, Antwerp, Ghent and Ostend have already indicated that they will invest in their network of charging stations.
