Boris van der Worst has successfully challenged the decision not to run for the post of President of the International Boxing Association IPA. In his appeal case on Tuesday, the Dutchman was seen right by the sports tribunal CAS.
The current Russian leader, Omar Kremlev, was nominated by Van der Worst. However, shortly before the IBA Congress in Istanbul, his candidacy was declared invalid.
With the exception of van der Worst, four members of the US, New Zealand, Denmark and Sweden were not allowed to run in the election. The quartet had started the campaign earlier than planned.
As a result, Omar Kremlev was re-elected president without a candidate. Significantly, he committed the same crime as his opponents, but to no avail. Van der Worst is reason enough to file a lawsuit with the CAS against the IBA.
“This is a wonderful day,” Van der Worst replied NOS In the statement. “I think new elections will be held and that is how it should be. We deserve a fair chance.”
The soap opera surrounding the presidency in the IPA is a thorn in the side of the International Olympic Committee. Boxing could lose Olympic status at the 2024 Games in Paris.
