Western Digital and Sony Interactive Entertainment introduce the first official M.2 SSD for the PlayStation 5

Western Digital Corporation. and Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE) are teaming up to acquire the first official PlayStation-licensed M.2 SSD for PS5 consoles. With the WD_BLACK SN850 M.2 SSD for PS5, gamers can quickly expand the storage capacity of their console. The drive is suitable for more intense gameplay.

Western Digital tested the drive in multiple scenarios for PS5. This process involved hundreds of hours of testing the most graphic-rich games across genres to ensure that gameplay for games saved to the drive is as fast, smooth, and visually immersive as ever.

The WD_BLACK SN850 M.2 SSD for PS5 allows gamers to save and play PS5 games and PS4 games directly from the drive. The all-in-one SSD design with heatsink makes installation hassle-free. Long load times are shortened with PCIe Gen4 technology and a read speed of up to 7000MB/s brings gamers quickly into the game.

The WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe M.2 SSD for PS5 is available for $214.99 for 1TB and $319.99 for 2TB. The drive is now available for purchase exclusively through the Western Digital Web Store, and will be available at select retailers, e-sellers and other select sellers from mid-August 2022.
