Zaid Hussein is barely ten years old, but he has shown security on his own at Iraq’s Najaf airport. The boy walked alone through at least seven checkpoints, even boarding a plane without a ticket.

The boy, whose mother says he is mentally insane and on medication, took a taxi to the airport by himself. He got paid for it by selling his bike. He managed to walk the airport for five hours, and he almost flew to Iran. He was already on the plane, except that he was lucky enough to be seated in a seat that had already been taken.
Zaid’s actions are not without consequences, and airport CEO Hikmat Ahmed assures that procedures will be followed and heads will roll. Security has been in the hands of a private company since 2019.
For Zed himself, the story got a very interesting ending. The Hamburger chain was so impressed with his story that they gave him, his mother, his sister and his brother a flight to Erbil. He answers, “My only goal was to get on the plane.” “My dream has now come true.”
