The excitement of college football joins the Chesterfield County Christmas Parade this year as the official mascots for Clemson University and the University of South Carolina will be marching down Main Street in Chesterfield. The parade begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
Cindy Beard, community relations and development coordinator for Hospice of Chesterfield County, said, “We have really been working hard to make the parade a big event this year. The Clemson Tiger, Cocky, and even the Coker College Cobra are planning to be here. We’re hoping to line up a meet and greet time with each of the mascots.”
Homemade floats are expected to be a big hit this year too, as the grand prize winner will be awarded $300 and the right to take home the trophy from the 24th annual event. Second place in the float competition will take home $200, and third place will receive $100.
Those entering the float competition are encouraged to incorporate lighting in their designs, said Beard, as it will be dark by the time the parade begins. All churches, civic groups, businesses and schools are encouraged to participate, said Beard.
