What bothers is the lack of recreational facilities in Cheraw. Although I know the YMCA has programs in Chesterfield, it is difficult for so many kids and adults to join the "Y" and be able to enjoy the benefits, especially swimming. Cheraw needs to have a swimming pool where kids and teens can learn how to swim and enjoy the benefits of it. It could also save a life just learning how to swim. Great exercise for everyone. And yes, what about a theater in Cheraw that shows movies so people don't have to travel out of the area to see a movie. How great would that be? Judie Kopfman, Cheraw, SC

A meeting to discuss the future of the Teals Mill bridge will be held Tuesday, June 18, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Lower Macedonia Baptist Church, by the pond. The public is invited.

Representatives from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will be there to discuss the proposed plans for replacing the current bridge, which is a Bailey bridge, or temporary bridge.

According to SCDOT, “The proposed improvements include replacing the two existing bridges on the Teals Mill dam with a new alignment across the Teals Mill Pond.” The current plan is to leave the current temporary bridges operational, while the new bridge and roadway is being constructed on a new parallel alignment.

The hearing format is informal and will welcome comments from the public.
