Cheraw office renamed after Congressman Spratt From LOCAL REPORTS The Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority, Cheraw office, was renamed in honor of Congressman John M. Spratt Jr. at a dedication held in Cheraw at the site. on February 23, 2006. PDRTA Board Chairman and Cheraw Mayor Andy Ingram presided over the dedication at a PDRTA-sponsored Business After Hours meeting of the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce. PDRTA's board of directors, state and local officials, area business leaders, and PDRTA staff were present. The PDRTA board voted to rename the Cheraw building after Spratt as a tribute to his support for public transportation in the Pee Dee Region and especially for his efforts on behalf of the authority. Speaking to the crowd of about 200, Spratt praised PDRTA. “If you look at PDRTA's history, it's one of taking steps forward.” Spratt also praised the authority for the service it provides to rural South Carolinians by making access to doctor appointments, social services, jobs and other destinations possible. Ingram noted the newly installed lettering over the facility's entryway reading, “John M. Spratt Jr. Transportation Center” and presented the congressman with a plaque, which will hang in the building.
