The victims of an armed home invasion and robbery in a Chesterfield neighborhood near the Piggly Wiggly on Saturday, Oct. 20, included a man, two women and two toddlers. Two suspects in the crime have been arrested and two more have been named, but not yet apprehended, according to Sgt. Wayne Jordan, an investigating officer for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.

“We have two in custody, and the investigation is still ongoing,” Jordan said Tuesday.

Richard Smith, 30, of Chesterfield, and Maurice Tavezz Anderson, 23, of Charlotte, have been arrested in connection with the crimes, said Jordan.

According to the incident report, shortly after 8 o’clock that Saturday evening it was reported that “two black males came inside the home and pointed hand guns at them and forced them to get down to the floor.” The robbers asked one of the victims, “where the money and the marijuana was at and then they started to take other valuable items from the house; also took all the jewelry.”

One of the culprits then forced one of the victims to put everything into bags and take it to his vehicle parked outside their mobile home on Marigold Drive.

A friend of the victims happened to pull up in his car at the time of the incident and saw through the kitchen window “two guys pointing guns at the people inside,” according to the sheriff’s report. The friend ran to the neighbor’s house and asked them to call 911.

The culprits fled the scene on foot and bloodhounds followed their scent to the Piggly Wiggly parking lot, where it was lost. According to Jordan, a confidential informant happened to see a rental car in the parking lot that evening that may have been used as a getaway car.

Jordan said the investigation discovered that Maurice T. Anderson had rented a vehicle in Charlotte, N.C.

Several items from the robbery were found between the home and the Piggly Wiggly, including a pocket book and two handguns. “One was a kel tec 9mm and the other was a hi point 45 acp, both were placed together under some brush near the pocket book and other items,” said Jordan. “The marijuana was not recovered.”
