to updateIn Italy, 35 people were injured on Saturday when a floor suddenly collapsed during a wedding. Six of the injured were taken to hospital in critical condition. This was reported by the Regional Health Service of Central Tuscany.

According to authorities, about 60 people were present when the fire broke out on the first floor of the former Giaccherino Monastery, located near the town of Pistoia, about 30 kilometers northwest of Florence. Some of the guests had already left the wedding, but most of them were young people who were still dancing when the floor suddenly collapsed.

The first floor of the 15th-century abbey was used as a restaurant for several years.

More than a hundred rescue workers, firefighters and police officers responded to help and care for people. The newlyweds are also among those infected, but it is not known how serious their injuries are.

Ambulances moved back and forth to transport the injured to various area hospitals. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, some of the injured had to wait in the monastery garden to be evacuated. They received thermal blankets from emergency services. To facilitate the movement of ambulances, the access road to the former monastery was closed to normal traffic.
