The US House of Representatives voted out the controversial George Santos

The US House of Representatives on Friday voted to impeach controversial Republican congressman George Santos. That US media reports. Suspected of money laundering, theft of public funds and making false statements, Santos had to leave after more than two-thirds of parliamentarians did not want him back in the House. Despite the Republican Party’s slim majority of 222 seats, 311 MPs voted in favor of his resignation and 114 against.

Santos, a New York state representative, came under fire for his scandals soon after entering the House. It turned out that he had lied about much of his application, and was arrested on charges of fraud and misappropriation of campaign funds. He allegedly committed fraud by debiting money from his donors’ credit cards without permission. Santos has always denied the allegations.

The House also voted to impeach Santos a month ago, but still lacks the two-thirds majority needed to oust. And since so many Republicans, 105 in all, voted against Santos on Friday, he must now leave. Santos is the sixth lawmaker in US history to be expelled from the House. With Santos out, New York’s governor must hold an election within 90 days to send a replacement to Washington.
