Neil Finn (65) had to audition to become the guitarist for Fleetwood Mac. The New Zealand singer, musician and founder of Crowded House tells MOJO magazine. He replaced guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham as the band's bassist in 2018.
“I was amazed. I was 60 and had a wonderfully diverse musical life when Mick was [Fleetwood, red.] “He called and said, 'We lost Lindsay, do you want to play with us?' Finn says of that moment. “He said, ‘Try it,’ so I did the test.”
This was the only time he had to audition for the band. “I went to Hawaii and Mick told me for an hour that it wasn't an audition, but it was. It was an audition for them too, and I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. I was completely conflicted but I loved the people.”
Finn says some then suggested there would be no Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey Buckingham. “But I brought personality and the ability to work with Stevie [Nicks, red.] And Christine [McVie, red.] To sing. I could never sound like Lindsay, but I bring a similar intensity to his songs.”
When asked if he had ever spoken to Buckingham, the artist replied: “No, but I would love to have dinner with him.”
