The Super Cup is the first round of the Belgian competition. But that is already being introduced when the European Championship is still fresh in the memory and the transfer window is not yet complete.
“So the two strongest teams will not be able to get Club Brugge and Genk in line,” Frank Rice knows. “It’s a rehearsal, we shouldn’t expect more of it.”
“It will be a nice warm-up in which we can see a number of new names in action, especially in Genk, such as Eiting from Ajax and Trésor from Willem II. These new names are not yet available in Club.”
“The genic core is really very broad,” says the commentator. “The club still has plenty of time, because they only play the Champions League in September, while Genk has to work hard in the preliminary rounds.”
According to Frank Reiss, the two strongest teams in Belgium will face each other with Genk and Club Brugge. They finished the playoffs with an equal number of points in 1 and 2 places.
“In the Champions Qualifiers, the penalty was for hitting Genk Klopp twice. Then they inflated Brugge’s neck, which makes the match even more exciting.”
“I am also looking forward to the battle between two very good young guards: Vandevoordt and Lammens.” And he was the last one in charge because of Simon Mignolet’s injury during the European Championship.
Not only is Mignolet missing at Club Brugge: “Hans Vanaken is not here yet, Rodformer is in quarantine and Sobol has not been counted yet,” Reis said.
“I would like to see what De Kitleari can do in Vanaken’s position, which would be his best position. But the absentees of course will determine the match.”
Nor is the club’s opponent in full force yet. Genk has three Colombians who have not returned after the Copa America. “Hrosovsky, Thorstedt and Unwacho are not quite fit either.”
For the first time in a long time, fans are allowed to come and watch. “I understand that ten thousand are welcome,” says Reese. “They will have an interest, especially for Club Brugge, which always depends on the support of the fans. I’m actually looking forward to that more than anything.”
