Apple makes switching to Android easier and makes Safari removable – Tablets and Phones – News

Apple will make it easier to switch from iOS to an alternative operating system like Android. The company comes with several options, such as the ability to transfer Safari data to another browser. Users can also uninstall Safari in the future.

Apple writes about these options In a document It describes how you intend to comply with European digital markets law in the future. Under this law, technology companies must make their platforms open. Apple lists several options for how to comply with the law. One is that the company is working on “a solution that will allow mobile operating system developers to create more user-friendly options for transferring data from an iPhone to a non-Apple phone.” In practice, this probably means a switching screen like Google did with Switch to Android.

Apple did not describe what the new system should look like, but says developers can create something of it themselves. This system should be available to European users at least in the fall of 2025. It is not clear what happens to users in other countries where DMA does not apply.

The company also makes it easy to switch browsers. This must be done using the 'Switch browser option'. This should allow stored data such as bookmarks to be transferred from one browser on the device to another. Apple says this system should be ready by the end of 2024 or early 2025.

Apple also wants you to be able to permanently remove Safari from your iPhone or iPad. Currently, users can only make the browser invisible by removing it from the home screen, but Apple wants to offer the option to remove the app entirely by the end of 2024.
