Antwerp introduced Vincent Jansen (28) to the press. The Dutchman, who was bought from Monterrey, is intrigued by the ambitious climate in Bosuil: “There is so much going on here, I want to be a part of it.”
After Arizona, Tottenham, Fenerbahce and Monterrey in Mexico, Jansen now wants to score goals in Antwerp. The striker said it was not a transfer he made with a goal for the Dutch national team. “When I was in Mexico I was already selected for Orange. Be careful, I think the national coach thinks that’s a good choice. He can follow my games a little easier here. Of course I want to go to the World Cup, but then I’ll have to show that on the field” .
Janssen wants to be “important”. “I know the expectations. It doesn’t create pressure. Everyone has to perform, that’s life. The club is ambitious and so am I. You feel something is about to happen here, I want to be a part of it. People want to play European football here, And to become champions, … I also want to win prizes.”
A few weeks ago, Janssen married a Mexican. She is moving to Antwerp. “It will take some tweaking, but it will be fine. What am I going to miss in Mexico? (laughs) The weather. And people, I made friends there. By the way, don’t underestimate the Mexican league. The level was good, but there were many international players. I learned a lot, and now I want to use this experience here.”
In his own words, Jansen has no goal in terms of goals in his head. “I’ve never had that before. But I can score right and left. Plus, I’m ball-resistant and good at collecting. I want to make my name here.”
It’s still a long time but players can now enter the training ground at any time.
Players warm up on a separate training ground and will be arriving soon.

The first training of the day is over. Internationals Vincent Janssen (Netherlands) and Michel-Ange Balekewicha (Belgium U-21) took an extra week of rest and appeared in training today. For Jansen, it was his first practice at Great Old, which he took away from Mexico’s Monterrey during the summer transfer window. At 2 p.m., he will also speak to the current press.
All eyes (and cameras) were on Vincent Janssen this morning.
