There are still 46 days left until the start of the Belgian cycling season. However, many organizers fear that they will never have to organize VIP arrangements again.
At Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, traditionally their opening weekend diptych, they actually made a trip and finally canceled the VIP tents a while ago.
“Road races are organized on public roads. Just like at Meir in Antwerp, everyone can still take to the streets. Cycling enthusiasts have already learned the discipline of wearing a mouth mask when they go to watch the race. It was discussed with the audience,” he says. Tom Van Dam.
“We’ll have to wait and see how it goes for the start and finish areas for the different races. How many people can congregate there etc. I think I can trust the flexibility of our organizers.”
“We as Belgian Cycling meet them in licensing costs if they have to organize without an audience. This was already the case last year and we are continuing that streak again. We are looking at this intervention on a case-by-case basis and also by competition category.”
