Loena Hendrickx, a surprising fifth seed at the World Championships in March in Stockholm, changed her coach in the run-up to the Winter Olympics. Her brother, Jorek Hendrix, will replace Karen Hiergers as head coach.
Having finished his career as a skater, Jorik Hendrickx was already closely involved in training. In Stockholm, for example, he was also the main companion of his sister. This summer, Loena Hendrickx also trained at Courchevel with famous Russian coach Alexej Mishin.
Loena Hendrickx (21) came to train at Herrygers when she was four years old, who was already working on Jorik at the time. Hiergers has been her coach for sixteen years.
“There is no longer a click away to train Luina at the highest level in the run-up to the Olympics,” said Herrigers, who was a Belgian champion herself.
Herigers says he will now focus on other athletes. Loena says she regrets that Herrygers “completely disappeared from her career. Changes to the division of roles were already planned, as I was looking for more involvement in my head coach.”
According to a Flemish Ski Federation report, Herrygers, Loena and Jorik Hendrickx have split on good terms. “I am so grateful to Karen for all these beautiful years,” said the driver. Higgers wishes brother and sister Hendrix all the best.
