Ousmane Dembele has been out of action for four months after knee surgery

Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, who was injured during the European Championship with the French national team, underwent successful surgery in Finland to dislocate the biceps femoris tendon in his right knee. Barcelona announced that he will be out for four months.

“Osmane Dembele’s surgery was successfully carried out in Turku (Finland) by Dr. Lassi Lembinin under the supervision of the club’s medical service,” Barcelona said in a statement.

The 27-year-old Barcelona winger was the offensive joker at Les Bleus in the European Championship. He scored in a friendly match against Wales (3-0) in early June and appeared in the two European Championship matches against Germany in Munich (a 1-0 win) and Hungary in Budapest (1-1), where he was injured.

Dembele has played 44 games for Barcelona and scored 11 goals in all competitions since returning from a serious injury in February 2020.

In September 2017, shortly after moving from Borussia Dortmund to Catalonia for around £135m (including bonuses), he ruptured the biceps femoris tendon in his left thigh.

But in the 2020-21 season, he only sustained one injury. In December, he missed five games in a row due to a minor hamstring strain in his right thigh.

KRC Genk resumed training sessions shortly after other first division teams, in part due to the long absence of a large number of names. Paul Onwacho, Juna Ito, and four other South Americans active in the Copa America joined even later. Gerardo Arteaga and Eboue Kouassi will be absent until early August due to their selection for the Olympics.

The first training match for the KRC Genk takes place on Saturday 3 July, at the Eendracht Termien. This is followed by training matches against Eupen on July 7 and Utrecht on July 10. The last training match will be on the 14th of July in their own stadium against EZ Alkmaar. After that, the delegation will travel on a mini-stage to Burgh-Haamstede in Zeeland, where preparations are made for the Supercup against Club Brugge on July 17.
