The volume of idle funds in Belgium has now risen to 686.9 million euros. This is clear from data released by federal public service funding.
Dormant funds are bank accounts, insurance contracts, or vaults that have not been used for a certain period of time and have had no further contact with the financial institution. This concerns, for example, accounts that grandparents opened for their grandchildren, but never told them about.
This money goes into FPS Finance's deposit and deposit box, waiting to be claimed by its rightful owners. They have 30 years to do so, otherwise the assets will end up in the state treasury.
Recovery of 14 million euros
At the beginning of last year, there were still around €622 million of idle assets. Meanwhile, 2,528 people claimed their idle money, amounting to 13.8 million euros.
