Infected with monkeypox virus escapes from hospital in Mexico Abroad

An American man infected with monkeypox escaped from a Mexican hospital and returned to the United States. This was reported by the local health authorities.

The 48-year-old, from Texas, escaped from a hospital in Puerto Vallarta, a city in the Mexican state of Jalisco, last weekend. The man’s health care staff explained that he should self-isolate while waiting for his test result, but the man ignored this advice. The patient had arrived at the hospital and had the following symptoms: cough, chills, muscle aches and a rash on his face and neck.

After the man escaped from the hospital, he returned to the hotel where he was staying with his partner. Soon, he boarded a plane to the United States before authorities could track him down.

Club parties

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told Mexican authorities on Monday that the patient had returned home, where a test confirmed he was a carrier of monkeypox virus.

Before arriving in Puerto Vallarta on May 27, the man was in the German capital Berlin between May 12 and 16, then spent some time in his home city of Dallas. During his stay in Mexico, the patient went to parties at the Mantamar Beach Club. The health authorities are now asking everyone who went to the club during that period to monitor their health.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has yesterday Know that more than 1,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported in previously unaffected countries since May.
