Israel uses Pegasus spyware to locate hostages

The Israeli government appears to be using NSO Group’s controversial Pegasus spyware to locate civilians kidnapped by Hamas.

Why is this important?

The Israeli NSO Group is no stranger. The company has recently faced a storm of criticism for allegedly providing surveillance tools to governments. They then use it against journalists, regime opponents and human rights defenders.

In the news. According to Axios Israel will now deploy NSO’s Pegasus software in Gaza.

  • Pegasus is a program that can be installed on someone’s phone. Using this program you can “view” the entire device. All documents, photos and messages can be read, and phone conversations can be listened to.
