Junya Eto'o (former Genk) denies assault and demands compensation: “It is important to clear his name as quickly as possible” | Foreign football

Junya Eto'o, 30, the former captain of Racing Genk who is now on salary at France's Stade Reims, denies assaulting two women and is demanding damages amounting to around 1.2 million euros. This was reported by the French news agency.

“It is very important to clear his name as quickly as possible. The player’s career is short,” said Eto’o’s lawyer.

Justice in Japan announced an investigation into these allegations on February 1. Eto, a Japan international, is said to have sexually assaulted the two women at an Osaka hotel with his fitness trainer in June 2023 after an international match between Japan and Peru.

Once news of the investigation spread, Eto'o left the Asian Cup in Qatar. The Japanese Federation considered that the departure of the winger was necessary so that the team could focus on the remainder of the tournament. Japan was then surprisingly eliminated by Iran in the quarter-finals (2-1).

Eto'o played football for Racing Genk between 2019 and the summer of 2022, which he sold to the French club for about ten million euros.
