Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek has announced two new smartphone SOCs, including the Helio G96 chip for mid-range smartphones. This chip will receive support for 120Hz screens and 108MP cameras.
from Helio G 96 From Media Tech gets among other things Cortex-A76 cores at 2.05GHz and six power-efficient A55 cores, just like the previous Helio G95. The used Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, which runs at 1GHz, is less powerful than the Mali-G76 MC4 in Helio G95.
The new G96 chip receives support for screens with a higher refresh rate; The new soc supports 120Hz displays with Full HD+ resolution, instead of 90Hz displays with the G95. The maximum camera resolution has also been increased from 64 to 108 MP. The maximum recording resolution for 4k video remains at 30 frames per second. The G96 also gets Bluetooth 5.2 support and faster UFS 2.2 storage.
MediaTek also offers a file Helio G 88Which appears to have the same combination of GPU and CPU as the G96. The G88-soc supports a maximum of 90Hz displays with Full HD+ resolution and camera sensors with a maximum resolution of 64MP. Both G96 and G88 get dual SIM support with times. 5G support is missing. Chips should appear in middle-class smartphones in the future.
